On Saturday morning Eluid Kipchoge will look to reach that which no human being has ever done – run a marathon in under 2 hours.
As with all running the 100 metres in in under 3 minutes, the barrier for the marathon could represent a landmark in not just world athletics but in accomplishment as well.
To be able to split the two-hour barrier Kipchoge might have to conduct 34 seconds for every mile and an average of four minutes. That equates to conducting 17.08 minutes for each 100 metres he runs.
Cheered by an expected 250,000 spectators, the race will occur in Vienna early on Saturday afternoon, starting about the Imperial Bridge – the Reichsbrucke – before a 1.2km run to the park where Kipchoge will subsequently run 4.4 laps of this coastal Hauptallee, the historical route which runs through the core of the park.
An electric-timing automobile will be utilised to control the speed of the race, that is placed in a -minute-per-kilometre.
Kipchoge has the pedigree. Back in May 2017 he made a similar attempt to break the barrier, completing 26.2 miles round the Monza Formula One racetrack in two hours and 26 minutes.
The set an official world record of two hours, one minute and 39 seconds this past year.
Should he break the barrier this time around it wouldnt count as a world record.
The cause of this is even though running together with pacemakers like five-time Olympian Bernard Lagat, since Kipchoge is the sole entrant in the race. Even the pacemakers will dip in and out of every extend and lap protection.
A world record attempt is legitimate in the event the pacemakers did not rejoin.
Organisers have announced that the weather conditions of Saturday will be ideal for its record attempt and Kipchoge is going to have a window between 5am and 9am Central European Time to begin the race.
